Why Run a Node?

Node operators earn a direct share of the revenue their device generates. Evolving Edge distributes up to 25% of platform revenue back to operators on a sliding scale - the higher your Performance Index score, the larger your share. Payouts go out monthly via ACH or Mastercard and Visa debit cards through our payment partner, and earnings are calculated automatically each billing period.

Nodes that stay above 95% uptime in a billing period may earn an Availability Bonus on top of their base revenue share. And there’s no minimum hardware spec to get started - lower-spec devices get fewer requests but still contribute to network coverage and earn real money. If you upgrade your hardware later, your score and earnings go up. It’s a direct relationship.

Make the internet faster for people and workloads near you

Every active node makes the network measurably better for the people it serves. When your device caches and processes workloads locally, it cuts the distance a request has to travel - and distance is the primary driver of latency. Traditional infrastructure can’t match neighborhood-scale delivery. By running a node, you become part of a network that’s distributed by design, not by accident. More nodes means lower latency for more users, better redundancy against regional outages, and less dependence on a handful of hyperscale data centers.

Be part of something that’s actually open

The node software is open source because operator trust is the foundation this whole thing is built on. Home-lab enthusiasts, self-hosters, small-business IT folks - this crowd reads the code. You can verify our privacy claims yourself, see exactly how content and workloads are handled, and suggest improvements if you spot something worth fixing. That transparency is a deliberate architectural decision, not a marketing line.

Beyond the software, we’re working to build a real community here - performance leaderboards, recognition programs, a referral program, and regular conversation on Discord. Node operators are stakeholders in this network, not anonymous infrastructure suppliers.

Your dashboard surfaces everything you need to improve: uptime percentage, bandwidth contributed, cache hits per day, earnings, and specific recommendations for hardware or network changes that would raise your Performance Index score. The relationship between effort and reward is explicit and measurable - adding RAM, switching to an SSD, improving your uplink - each of these shows up in your score in a way you can see and quantify. The goal is to give every operator a clear, low-friction path to contributing more over time, whatever hardware they’re starting with.

The node agent is written in Go and available for all major operating systems - Mac, Windows, and Linux - deployed as a single Go Binary using a one-line install script or Docker Compose. (Desktop installers for Mac, Windows, and Linux will follow.)

The source code is published under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and available for review anytime. You can compile it yourself if you want to - but for network participation, only cryptographically signed binaries distributed directly from Evolving Edge are accepted. This protects you and everyone else on the network.

Don’t download or run a node binary from any source other than Evolving Edge. If someone’s handing out unsigned builds, that’s not us.
