Operator FAQ
- Why am I unable to add a fourth node?
By default, the maximum number of nodes per operator in Phase One is limited to three. Contact us if you’d like to add additional nodes. Be sure to explain your use case or rationale.
- Why does my node’s Performance Index appear lower than I expect?
There are many factors that contribute to your node’s Performance Index. The most critical is uptime. While your node may be perpetually running, some ISP’s may drop packets during heartbeat checks. To improve this, consider Gateway Mode.
- Will this increase my electric bill?
This will depend on the type of machine you’re running and the tasks assigned to it, but yes, a machine running tasks will use more electricity than an idle machine. But there is a direct correlation to energy use and tasks - if your computer is being used for tasks, you are earning income and that income should more than offset your electricity costs.
- If I reinstall the node software, do I lose my Active Node Hours?
No. Your node’s identity comes from the machine rather than from the node software, so reinstalling brings back the same node with its history intact. Reinstalling the operating system is different — that generates a new machine identity, and the node that enrolls afterwards is a new node starting from zero. Container nodes need a fixed hostname and a persistent machine ID to keep one identity across recreations. See Node Identity.
